Andor Goes Green

At Andor we have been working over the last number of years to reduce the impact we have on our environment, as well as improving our levels of health and safety at work.

As part of our existing Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy, Andor has put in place projects and initiatives to recycle waste and reduce energy use, making us a cleaner, safer and a more profitable business. This has contributed to Andor achieving the ISO 14001:2004 accreditation for our Environment Management System. This is a framework for Andor to control the environmental impacts of our activities, products and services, and to continually improve our environmental performance. As part of this framework Andor is committed to:

  • continual improvement and prevention of pollution on a global basis
  • meet and exceed relevant environmental legislation and other requirements
  • providing a framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets

We are also developing a range of EHS statements to ensure we are compliant on EU and global legislation in areas such as WEEE the removal of all waste electronic and electrical equipment placed by Andor onto the marketplace and RoHs, the reduction of levels of hazardous substances within electronic equipment.

We are currently moving towards accreditation with The Carbon Trust, through their globally recognised ‘Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme’. This will measure our current carbon footprint with a view to reducing it in areas such as travel and energy consumption. Some of the more specific initiatives already underway include:

  • Camera shipments – we have traditionally shipped our systems in plastic suitcases. We will now be switching these to corrugated recyclable cardboard packaging. Find out about our new shipping procedure
  • Product support user guides / manuals – We have traditionally shipped up to three manuals with each camera, resulting in hundreds of pages and printing. We will now be switching to electronic manuals on CD-Rom and on-line support.

There are many other environmentally friendly projects currently being evaluated and implemented within Andor but we also welcome your feedback and support during this period. Please contact us at GoGreen@andor.com with your ideas.
